SUPER BRIGHTS
LORNA WILTSHIRE July 2013

So far we have had a crazy Summer of weather … sunny one day then cloudy and for three with unusually cooler temperatures! What better way to ensure a sunnier view each day than to inject some impressive bright colours into your home?

Bringing an impressive new look to your interior does not need to take a lot of your time or demand a lot of cash! If you want a really dramatic feel then go for a bold new paint that catches your eye or wallpaper that includes super bright shades. To achieve a striking result somewhere in the middle of bold and minimal then introduce brightly coloured rugs, cushions, artwork and throws. For those who prefer the more subtle approach, introduce one statement colour first, such as a series of bright paintings in the lounge, a multicoloured bedspread for your bedroom or a red cake mixer in the kitchen! An excellent rule of thumb is to use no more than 30% super brights in the room as a whole; this will prevent the colours dominating the mood.

Try Pinterest (an online pin-board) for inspiration on what colours will work best with your style. Pinterest offers a huge variety of photographs to help you collect ideas on your favourite colour schemes. As an example you can look at my “Interior Super Brights” board here pinterest.com/youandyourstyle/interior-super-brights

You can also use my ColourSwatch app to guide you when planning your new colour scheme. Colours that work together best are grouped clearly into 4 different categories – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. First, find your preferred colour on the app and then create your palette by choosing complimentary colours from the surrounding colour grid. Find ColourSwatch on my website www.youandyourstyle.co.uk/private/app and start basking in beautiful colours inside your home!
