Powerhoop Spins Into Town with MB Body Motive

A new type of exercise class has been taking the UK by storm as news spreads of the waist-whittling effect of the Powerhoop. Unlike the small, light, plastic hoops from the 1950s, Powerhoops are large, weighted and padded, with a wavy inner profile. Their size and weight make “hooping” easy for new users and challenging for the body’s core muscles.

Powerhoop’s “full-circle” training is designed to flatten the stomach, firm up the abs and strengthen the back. Users quickly notice a tangible difference in the circumference of their waist. With regular use, the Powerhoop also contributes to weight loss/calorie burn, reduced lower back pain and improved co-ordination.

The classes run for 45 minutes and involve much more than just hip-twirling; the weighted Powerhoop is used in a variety of manoeuvres to work all the body’s muscle groups, including weight-training, aerobics, stretching, dance and Pilates-based exercise. Powerhoop Instructor, Mark Bailey of MB Body Motive says:  “Class members will keep coming back because they will see the results, but most of all because training with the hoop is lots of fun. You won’t even realise that you’re exercising.”

Powerhooping may be fun, but it’s also a fitness activity that can be taken seriously. A new study by researchers at Canada’s University of Waterloo Spine Biomechanics Laboratory, one of the world’s foremost sports medical research facilities, has now confirmed that regular Powerhooping causes the waist to shrink. The subjects were 14 mildly overweight women who used a Powerhoop for 15 minutes per day, five days per week, over a period of six weeks. The researchers collected several types of data, including calories burned, subcutaneous fat measurements, subjects’ body measurements and muscle activation.

A report by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) also reveals that hooping burns an average of 420 calories per hour, which is the equivalent of a cardio-kickbox class.

Celebrities are also loving the Powerhoop workout with A-listers including Beyoncé, Michelle Obama and  Catherine Zeta-Jones embracing its waist-trimming benefits. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or a newbie, Powerhoop is definitely the workout that really works so be sure to book your class today!
