Elvis is in the building!

LQ Magazine meets up with Ian Monah

When you meet Ian Monah, you can certainly see the likeness to the King of Rock and Roll almost immediately, and as we discover, the similarities don’t just stop at his looks - Ian also sounds like his idol too!

Ian first sang with the church choir. He explains: “I’ve always loved Elvis. I sang Amazing Grace at a school performance.” Family helped Ian realise his full potential. “I was painting a room for my brother-in-law singing along to Elvis and my sister-in-law was listening to me.” Whilst at a family get-together, he was asked to get up and sing, and he’s been singing ever since!

Ian now has a portable PA system so that he can sing to anyone, anywhere. He’s now becoming a much-loved local icon. Recently Ian performed for the NSPCC charity event at the Railway Club, in which £1500 was raised.

Despite his talent, Ian is still humble, and says: “There will only ever be one Elvis. I may have a similar hairstyle, but that’s where the similarity ends. I always say to the people who come to  see me ‘if you’re going to throw tomatoes at me, can you please take them out of the tin first.”

It’s this sense of humour that makes Ian even more endearing and we look forward to a bright future for him.
