LQ Magazine catches up with Jewellery designer, Clare Louise Ellaby

Clare’s business dream started when she first decided to sell just a few pieces of jewellery on eBay. Her idea was successful, and as a mum, she also wanted to work around her daughter Madison with flexibility- something this enabled.

Before starting her own business, Clare worked within the Interior Industry. She had always been in a design environment as a Interior Designer. “I graduated in Interior Design at Nottingham Design Academy and I was pregnant at the time with my daughter Madison” - an achievement she is very proud of. The ability to design became a key factor in creating her own jewellery range.

Madison was newborn when she began her business journey. “My first business was Bridalise - I specialised in making tiaras and wedding jewellery, and then I developed it further as Ella Lou bridal.”

Four years ago Clare started to develop a fashion jewellery range. “The wedding industry wasn’t booming any longer so I knew it was time to move on.” “I  loved working with different textures and colours for the fashion range, and it just took off.” She started to create unique one-off pieces, and after four years of success, the new designer fashion range ‘Angelica Florence’ was born. “The name Angelica Florence was inspired by my nan, Florence, and Angelica is inspired from my daughter Madison because she is my little angel,” Clare says.

Angelica Florence has gone from strength to strength  with Clare experiencing her most proud moments. “Having celebrities wearing my jewellery pieces. has been fantastic” she says. Abby Mavers who plays Dynasty Barry in Waterloo Road is the latest

celebrity  who proudly tweeted pictures whilst wearing her Angelica Florence bracelet.

Fiona Wade from Emmerdale has also been wearing the designer jewellery range, as well as Sian Welby, seen wearing a black & gold Angelica Florence bracelet on TV numerous times.

“A model called Gina Negus from Essex is doing a photo shoot for me, modelling my pieces,” Clare explains. Clare says she is overwhelmed by the support from the celebrities that she has been getting.

“Sasha Parker and Korin Nolan have my jewellery and recently wore their bracelets during filming. Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove, who plays Texas also has a bracelet.”
Clare has big plans for her business. She explains she’s “trying to build up the sales and then I can approach boutiques within the next six months.”

A large part of Clare’s success is the high quality of her pieces. “All materials that I make my jewellery with are from British suppliers. All my jewellery is handmade - a bracelet takes about 30 minutes to make, and I never ever use elastic. I use beading wire, and I always use of glass pearls and all beads a glass and every product is tested.”

There are big plans for expansion withing the Angelica Florence range. “I am just about to design a men’s range. I’m also working on a bridal jewellery range - a designer range -  not tiaras - but bracelets, necklaces, and accessories. There will also be a children’s range within the year, and I would also like to launch Florence and co. which will be high-end jewellery. In five years time I would love to be supplying big chains like Selfridge’s and Harrods.”
